The Thing About Funerals Is… is a two-part exploration of funerals coming up on 24 June and on 7-8 July at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow. Brought to you by Final Fling, they will both give breathing space for the public to engage in conversations, reflection and provocations about how we say our goodbyes.

Both are free events. See our Events page for more details.

The Thing About Funerals Is… (part I)

The first is Final Fling Meet-Up on 24 June. Like a Death Cafe, participants are invited to sit and chew the fat for two hours, talking about funerals. (Participants are asked to book a seat for that – limited places.)

The Thing About Funerals Is… (part II)

The second is a free-form drop-in event – exhibition, exploration, provocation – over 2 days at GOMA. Barbara Chalmers, Founder of Final Fling, (who also conducts funerals and weddings as a celebrant with A Quiet Revolution) will start each day with a short ceremony. The evocative event features work by artist Melanie Sims, creator of The Lost Sister and The Memorandum Series.
No booking required.

This is part of an intriguing exhibition at GOMA by artist Marlie Mul called This Exhibition is Cancelled … so don’t be put off if you arrive at GOMA and see huge posters saying This Exhibition is Cancelled… there are events happening in the space till October. (All very ironic and interesting.)
