ABSENT FRIENDS SUPPER
6-9pm Thursday 9 November 2017
Kinning Park and Final Fling invite you to an Absent Friends Supper as part of the national To Absent Friends festival.
The Absent Friends Supper is a celebration of our loved-and-lost through friendship, storytelling, food and music.
Storytelling is provided by all the guests. Music is provided by Blackletter, whose speciality is ‘playing sad songs at a variety of tempos’. Laments and heel-kicking music will help prompt memories and storytelling and provide space for reflection between chat… just like a traditional wake after a funeral.
The evening will be hosted by Barbara Chalmers of Final Fling, the award-winning community for end of life planning.
FREE to attend.
Kinning Park Complex is an independent Arts and Social Centre that works to promote creativity, health and wellbeing, community and citizenship.
Final Fling is an award-winning online community for end of life planning. Founder Barbara Chalmers launched the first Death Café in Scotland and continues to host them quarterly. She ran a Big Conversation event for Dying Matters Week in 2015 at Kinning Park, bringing together professionals in end of life care with individuals with an interest in exploring big topics of life and death.
To Absent Friends is a Scotland-wide festival of remembrance that takes place in the first week of November, appropriately the time around Day of the Dead and Remembrance Sunday. The Festival was set up by the network Good Life Good Death Good Grief and takes place in public spaces, on social media, among friends, families and communities, and in people’s hearts and minds. Groups and individuals can join in, in whatever way they choose.
