Brighton Death Forum presents Moribund by Gimcrack Productions
April 20 @ 2:00 pm - 11:00 pm| £10
Brighton Death Forum presents MORIBUND and the Meaning of Death a show by Gimcrack Productions at The Bosco Tent Brighton Fringe Festival.
This neo-vaudevillian spectacular is appearing at The Bosco Tent for one night only at this year’s Brighton Fringe. Performance on 9th of May at 7.15pm. Tickets now on sale.
Young Eleanor Hush awakes to find herself at her own funeral with no memory of how she got there. Presiding over the service is Driscoll Bleak, funeral director and laconic guide to the post-mortem world. To find out how she died – and potentially regain her life – she must confront the realities of death that lurk in The Shadow. Moribund delves with wry enthusiasm into death, dying, and the spectre of mortality that haunts us all. In a dizzying series of vignettes, songs, dances and sketches, the audience embarks on a whirlwind journey from Victorian London to the Great Tibetan Mountains, with stopovers in ancient China and the indigenous communities of Madagascar and Australia. Moribund is a delightful exploration of how to make the most of death – and life, for that matter.
Moribund will be performed in The Bosco Tent as presented by the Brighton Death Forum. In its first outing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015, Moribund garnered a five star review from Edinburgh Spotlight, calling it “delightfully witty and well performed”. It went on to a prestigious residency at Crazy Coqs, Brasserie Zedel in London’s West End as part of the ‘Live At Zedel’ launch season in Autumn 2016.
Moribund is written, devised and performed by Rosie Kohl as Eleanor Hush and George Collie as Driscoll Bleak. Rosie is the Artistic Director of Gimcrack Productions, an emerging performance company founded in 2014 that uses elements of narrative theatre, cabaret, physical theatre and vaudeville; combining live music, spoken word, dance, clowning, and experimentation with form. They’ve developed a style they have made their own and dubbed ‘neo-vaudeville’.
